Frequently Asked Questions
To ensure you get the most out of your SmartGrip experience, we have answered several of the most commonly asked questions and provided a few helpful tips below.
-
To use SmartGrip, simply attach it to either your compatible golf glove (only Q-Mark™ gloves by Titleist and FootJoy) or any other glove using the included universal clip prior to each drive. SmartGrip will blink three times once attached to let you know it’s active and reading data.
* If it does not blink or turn on, try rotating the chip slightly while on the glove.
Next, make sure you are holding the golf club correctly by placing the grip of the club in the fingers of your lead hand (NOT the palm). It should feel like you are holding a hammer and there is plenty of wrist movement.
Lastly, rotate your lead hand clockwise until you see the green light turn on, indicating you are properly using a strong grip and you are ready to hit the ball.
SmartGrip was developed and engineered with some of the best PGA Tour players and professional to ensure you learn a proper strong/power grip. Enjoy!

If you are using a Q-Mark glove by Titleist or FootJoy, in some rare cases the magnet in the varies in strength causing some chips to need an adjustment to power on.
To fix this, simply rotate or turn your SmartGrip chip counter-clockwise until the green light blinks three times. It is now turned on, ready to go, and will work perfectly.
PLEASE NOTE: The chip might even seem like it is slightly hanging off the plastic casing on the Q-Mark glove, but we assure you the chip will not come off.
SmartGrip was designed primarily to develop healthy grip habits for drives and to correct a slice. Because of this, SmartGrip works best on longer clubs, such as drivers, woods, hybrids, and longer irons.

The universal glove clip makes SmartGrip compatible with all golf gloves.
First, attach the SmartGrip chip to the glove clip. It should snap into place and the green light will blink three times.
Next, if you wear your glove on the left hand, slide the clip through the TOP of the glove strap. If you wear your glove on the right hand, slide the clip through the BOTTOM of the glove strap.
PRO TIP: For improved battery life, remove the SmartGrip chip from the glove clip in between rounds.

Yes, this is completely normal!
After developing a habit with an incorrect grip over a long period of time, learning a proper grip will feel strange at first.
Most people hold the golf club in the palm of their hands, which can severely limit control and flexibility. Instead, hold the grip of the club in the fingers of your hand (like you would a hammer). This will feel much more controllable and make SmartGrip feel more comfortable.
However, since the SmartGrip chip can be used outdoors and indoors, try giving a few practice swings before heading to the course. If you’re already at the course, the awkwardness will usually go away after a bucket of balls at the range or after the first few holes.

No, SmartGrip is not a glove. It is a golf training aid designed to work seamlessly with any Q-Mark golf glove from Titliest or FootJoy, or any other glove when using the Umbrella Sports universal clip.
You simply replace the ball marker that came with your Q-Mark glove with your SmartGrip chip.
-
SmartGrip helps reinforce the use of what is commonly known in golf as a “strong” grip position, which has proven to dramatically help correct a majority of issues, including ball contact, slicing, distance, and consistency.
Because the grip is such a core fundamental in golf, we decided to launch the Umbrella golf grip chip with this in mind, with other grip enhancements coming in the future.
Here is a short YouTube video from Johnny Miller explaining more about the grip and why 80% of tour pros are using it.
